Réquiem 6

On the inauguration evening of Friday September 26, Aun Helden performed the 6th chapter of her iconic 'Réquiem' Series. The performance was hold in dialogue with Berlin based Chinese artist Dan Su who activated their Mobile Grief Temple [TF2.0]. The performance is part of 'Burial Jar' the first solo show of Brazilian artist Aun Helden in Italy.

In ‘Réquiem 6‘ the artist initially confronts unsuspecting passersby with her dark aura walking down the street (corso Buenos Aires). She then arrives at the gallery being welcomed by her audience.

The impact of her appearance unfolds in the first room 'Sphinx Chamber‘ which is entirely empty except a large black base. Aun Helden exposes herself on the base in a ‘Sphinx‘ pose surrounded by the audience. After slowly spitting on the base she sticks a needle in her dog hand player doll placed on her head which then spills out red liquid (...)

The performance moves on to the second chamber with Dan Su awaiting her in darkness. The two artists switch on headlights and start to move in a slow balanced dance. Aun Helden then enters Dan Su`s ‘Mobile Grief Temple‘ which is a sculpture consisting of a single metal tube that has been cut open and bent apart, allowing it to stand freely. Here the artist exposes her naked back, which is covered with fresh red paint. A serious injury is being resembled (...)
