Lusvardi Art is pleased to presents the first solo show of Korean artist Seungwoo Park in Europe. The show unites for the first time ever the various artistic expressions of the artist such as: Life performance, Video, Photogram, sculpture and Drawing.
Seungwoo Park *1997 Daegu, Korea, is a Performance Artist, Painter, Sculptor and Filmmaker.
Seungwoo Park developed a unique praxis of performance in which he focuses on transcending the physical limitations of the body.
The artist is inspired by observing the unpredictable movements of fish. In his performances he then let his intuition decide how to move. With unconscious movements he explores the complex interactions between reality and unreality. This paradoxically reveals his preoccupation with the “present”. Since there is technically no instant between past and future, it is the performance artist's gift to slow down time and intrigue us to forget for an instant the limitation of physical boundaries. His work hints at the perishability of existence while at the same time contemplating its eternity.
He incorporates the Buddhist idea of KARMA and Nietzsche's doctrine of The Eternal Recurrence of the same into his art practice.
He rejects the dualistic approach to life and death, instead he approaches the topic in a way that narrows the gap between birth and decease. Seungwoo explores the ambivalent, yet simultaneously intricate, reflections on life as a living, breathing, imperfect state and death as an empty, yet complete state.
The various artistic disciplines merge into one another in his practice as his sculptures appear in the “Photogram” series which is a flat imprint of a sculpture that poetically interprets light. Since light defines space the photogram shows us an illusion of a three dimensional object. The sculpture, or rather a fragment of itself, acquires an aesthetic quality that would not be visible in space.
While the photograms literally illuminate the coherence between an abstract body and its two-dimensional image, the figurative drawings reflect more a personal state of mind than an aesthetic research. The work "Born in the Night", for example, invites us to consider an alternative clue to the origin of life, seen as a transition zone in which one encounters one's personal demons before being reborn.
