Lusvardi Art is delighted to present ‘FUGA‘, Natalia Korotyaeva`s second solo exhibition at the gallery.
The exhibition title ‘FUGA‘ refers to a body of work composed of six wooden boards of equal size. Figurative oil painting in greyscale colors covers the frontside of each board. The six pictures are arranged as 3 pairs. Each pair is equipped with hinges that allow the pictures to be opened away from the wall into the room. As a consequence, the backside of the paintings which is usually a visual secret becomes visible.
Physically the installation is reminiscent of a book. Visually the paintings depict a complex act of multiple figures. Given that the actions depicted may not take place simultaneously, but one after the other as our gaze sweeps across the surface, a complex story is told. In fact each of the paintings has an individual title as if they were chapters of book. This work marks a significant milestone in Natalia`s artistic practice, as the artist is known for her rapid and multiple drawings. In contrast, ‘FUGA‘ took three years to develop. It is a work of art that invites the audience to explore the artist`s intricate matrix, a vision of for- and afterlife.
An ensemble of color intense ceramic sculptures with textile pieces accompanies the monochrome oil paintings. Additionally two large ink drawings on paper and a series of silkscreen prints were on display. The exhibition was part of the Milan Art Week program 2025
Natalia Korotyaeva is a multidisciplinary artist who reflects on the world and the balance between peace and catastrophe, as well as inner life, through drawings, installations, paintings, poetry, and performance art. Her work focuses on the concept of "inner motion," which experiences its journey in response to both external and internal forces. Natalia's art challenges visual perception by transcending reality with poetic logic in her figurative representations. She critically examines today's status quo through her unique formal language that bridges archaic and contemporary perspectives. Her work has been exhibited throughout Europe and Russia in various venues, including Platforma Kiev, Galerie Ludwig Köln, Kindl Kunstzentrum Berlin, Mumok Vienna, Exgirlfriend Gallery Berlin, Lavra Art Hall Kiev, Fabrica del Vapore Milan, and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
