Flavio Degen

The work of Flavio Degen explores the blurred boundaries between reality and fiction, memory and perception and how these are influenced by the overwhelming effect of visual input of modern technologies by using various media including painting, photography, collage, filmmaking, sculpture, sound and performance, often combining these into immersive installations. Degen mixes personal biography with mass media to challenge fixed beliefs and exploring the fluidity of identity. He likes to play with the spectator's perception by juxtaposing personal and found footage to create subconscious connections between unrelated images. His work also reflects on unfinished projects as a concept, allowing for ongoing reinterpretation.
Flavio Degen studied fine arts at the University of Arts Berlin (UdK) in the
class of Prof. Dr. phil. Hito Steyerl in which he gained a 'Meisterschüler' (MfA)
degree with special recommendation under her supervision.
The artist has exhibited in Berlin, London, Paris, Krakow, Milan and Spain
He also works as a DoP for TV and art projects. Besides he runs a non commercial art space in Berlin called +DEDE since 2018.
