The idea of the "origin" represented a sort of magnificent obsession for Modernity. Alongside a gaze directed toward an increasingly distant, mythologized, and radiant future, the avant-gardes cultivated a fascination for a past with primordial contours, seeking within it the very source of reality. This polarity, which experienced a loosening during the postmodern era of the 1970s and 80s, has intensified in recent decades following the triumph of new technologies. The awareness of how easily these tools can impact the very roots of being has created a new imaginary, one embraced by artists born at the end of the 20th century. An exasperatedly utopian horizon, with almost sci-fi traits, blends with the desire to evoke a primal energy springing from the dawn of the world.
DALL` ORIGINE
What unites the works of the two young artists on display at Lusvardi Art is an investigation into the sense of the origin. For Natalia Korotyaeva this takes the form of an "affabulatorio" flow—a narrative with ancestral traits, an inlay of legends and autobiographical suggestions. For Gregorio Vignola, it manifests as a core sampling of the archaic, the retrieval of hidden and fertile layers, and the discovery of a primordial somaticity.
Through paintings, drawings, installations, poems, and performances, Natalia Korotyaeva questions the dynamics of inner life, particularly the balance between peace and catastrophe. The works on display focus on a possible vision of what exists before life, and simultaneously, what can be prefigured as an "afterlife"—a condition beyond biological existence. Her work has been exhibited across Europe and Russia in various venues, including Platforma Kiev, Galerie Ludwig Köln, Kindl Kunstzentrum Berlin, Mumok Vienna, Exgirlfriend Gallery Berlin, Lavra Art Hall Kiev, Fabbrica del Vapore Milan, and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
Gregorio Vignola’s expressive research develops around the idea of the "trace," understood as a sign of passage, transformation, and loss of orientation. The forms and materials of his works refer to slow, impersonal processes—accumulation, erosion—that allow time to be perceived in a non-linear way. The works in this exhibition belong to the Papyraceus series: images of abdominal ultrasounds are transformed through digital interventions into stratified volumes reminiscent of geological sedimentations. His work has been hosted by venues such as Artra Gallery in Milan, Ramo in Como, Vanna Casati in Bergamo, and several independent spaces including Spazio Volta (Bergamo), Studio Home Awareness (Milan), Coco (Como), Spazio 15 (Brescia), and Space-0 in Copenhagen.
